Long Term goal for Haiti
This is what will have to be accomplished in the future for the survival of the Haitian people and the rebuilding of this nation; This is not an undertaking of the Haiti Relief Fund Inc., it is a need of the country, Haiti.
A National Bank of Agriculture for the Republic of Haiti
The idea of a Bank of Agriculture came about when I was a teenager in 1977, my father Papa Kenol always talked about the social and political injustice of Haiti.
The most important idea he discussed was a National Bank of Agriculture for Haiti. Papa Kenol said the bank should be national with branches throughout the country.
The Bank should oversee all productions of agriculture's and offer assistance to farmers, especially for land that had not been productive.
The Bank should be able to provide grants and loans to farmers, training, agricultural equipment, seed/grains, land, fertilizer, irrigation, water wells, and the support they need for Haiti to be able to feed its people.
Papa Kenol had said farmers who become successful with their results should pay back to the Bank what they can afford with seeds/grains. This practice will allow the Bank to have large amount of seeds/grains in stock so it can continue to grant/loan other farmers who need help cultivating their land.
Papa Kenol proclaimed that until Haiti can establish such an Institution, a Bank of Agriculture, we will not be able to develop anything else because for a human or an independent nation like Haiti to grow, it starts in the belly. You need to be able to feed yourself otherwise you are not independent, and when the paisans/farmers leave their farms and come to Port-au-Prince, trying to survive will become an even bigger challenge.
Papa Kenol was a philosopher and a successful entrepreneur with his brother Absolut Thomas who both passed away about twenty years ago.
Haiti Relief Fund hopes to inspire Haiti to take these ideas to help build a better tomorrow for the people.
In memorium of Papa Kenol and Papa Thomas.
